Denise Lewis to attend DRET Summer Cup

Students from across the David Ross Education Trust (DRET) will be competing in front of Olympic Gold medallist Denise Lewis OBE at an event that was described by Sky Sports as “one of the country’s best school sports days.”

The David Ross Education Trust’s Summer Cup sees around 1500 children and young people from across the Trust’s 33 academies compete in a range of sports at Grantham Meres Sports Stadium.

This year, on Wednesday 1st July, Denise Lewis will be Guest of Honour, supported by over a dozen other sporting stars including Gabby and Kenny Logan.

Denise Lewis said: “I can’t wait to join students from the David Ross Education Trust for their Summer Cup.

“It promises to be a fantastic day. Events like this are so important in helping to inspire the next generation of athletes to achieve their sporting potential

“I’m thrilled to be part of this special event.”

Students from across the Trust have had access to a range of high quality coaching in preparation for the Cup. They have been given masterclass sessions by a host of GB athletes, including javelin star, Joe Dunderdale,  indoor athletics champion, Perri Shakes-Drayton and Olympic swimmer, Sophie Allen.

Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive for the David Ross Education Trust, commented: “Sport is very important to the Trust and something we are very proud of.

“Not only does it help support students achievements in the classroom, it teaches them about winning and losing and makes them well rounded individuals.”
