About our setting
In foundation stage, our goal is to create a safe and stimulating environment where your child can flourish, reach their full potential and develop a love for learning. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with your child and getting to know them as an individual.
When your child first starts our school in the foundation stage, we focus on helping them to get to know the environment, become familiar with the routines of the day and guide them to understand the expectations for behaviour based on the behaviour values of our school.
What learning looks like in our setting
Your child will get to experience the seven areas of learning through a range of adult-led and independent opportunities and enhancements.

When children start in Nursery, they begin by learning each other’s names and getting to know their peers through different games and circle times. Then throughout the year, children will be taught how to make relationships with each other. Lots of this learning takes place in the classroom on a day-to-day basis when problems occur. They will develop a sense of belonging to varying communities. These are talked through with adults and discussions happen to ensure learning is taking place. Circle times are frequently used to explore social situations and support children in problem solving and developing empathy for each other. |

Communication and Language |
Children’s listening skills will progress throughout the year. The time they are expected to sit, and listen will be slowly extended throughout the year so that they are able to focus for longer as the year goes on. Children’s understanding will be developed in day-to-day activities throughout the provision with adults interacting to help to develop and extend language and also in direct lessons where meanings of new words will be explored when new topics are being introduced. Speaking is modelled by adults in the setting and children are expected to use whole sentences and correct speech throughout the year vocab is extended through learning - opportunities to do this arise throughout the year. |

Children will also, learn how to put on coats, shoes, aprons etc. They will also learn howto use a variety of tools such as mark making tools, scissors, paint brushes, glue. They will also learn how to handle books including which way round and page turning. Children will also use a cup for drinking milk, learn how to care for their teeth and to learn hpw tp express their thoughts and emotions. |

In EYFS, we have lots of opportunities for parents to share their child’s learning.
This includes:
- Home visits – 30-minute structured appointment before the start of the Reception year
- Parents’ evenings – 10 minutes only 2 x a year
- Family events- book and biscuit
- Tapestry
- Reports- end of each year
- Daily chats
- Positive relationships with staff

- Sports days
Staffing
There are three key members of staff working with the nursery and each child will have a key worker to support their learning and development. The ratios are 1:13 for children 3 and over and 1:5 for 2 year olds. The nursery teacher has a ratio of 1:13.
Nursery parents will be given a one page profile of their child’s key worker.
Food and drink
Children are offered a range of snacks whilst in the setting including fruit, breadsticks, biscuits as well as being offered milk and water every day.
There are opportunities for children to explore different foods with cooking sessions led by adult to learn about how to prepare and make food safely.
